Table Settings

Most AFK pain comes from tables with no idle timeout, or a very long one. Thirty seconds in the create table dialog saves a lot of waiting later. The options below are under Timeouts and Vote to Kick when you create a table.

Idle timeout#

How long the player whose turn it is can go without doing anything before they're marked idle. Once they are, the other players can Force Concede them and the host can kick them. It also sets how long a draw vote waits for answers.

Table Idle timeout
Public Always on. 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes, 5 by default.
Friends, private, playgroup 5 minutes by default. Anything from 5 to 60 minutes, or off.

The dialog remembers what you picked last time, except that switching a table to public always resets it to 5 minutes.

Pick by who you're playing with:

  • Strangers: 5 minutes. Long enough for a big turn, short enough that a walk-off doesn't wreck the evening.
  • Your regular pod: 10 to 15 minutes, or off if everyone's on voice and will just say when they need a minute.
  • Long, complicated games (big boards, Planechase, 12 seats): 10 minutes, so a slow turn isn't mistaken for an absent player.

With the idle timeout off, nobody can be force conceded or kicked for going quiet. Only do that with people you trust to concede.

Mulligan timeout#

How long each player gets to keep or mulligan before the game keeps their hand for them. 3 minutes by default. Under London mulligan a hand kept this way still bottoms the right number of cards, chosen at random.

Vote to Kick#

Lets players remove someone who is present but ruining the game, as long as every other player still in the game agrees. On by default, and always on for public tables. AFK Players has the full rules.

Turning it off doesn't stop idle or disconnected players from being removed. Those have their own tools that work whatever this is set to.

Breaks#

Nothing to set up. Any player can request a 20, 30 or 60 minute break from the turn clock during a game. Everyone has to accept, and idle timers are paused while it's on. Useful for pods that run long.
