Match / Stats Integrity System

We have had a few messages lately along the lines of "this player only ever plays the same two people and wins most of their games, they must be cheating". We have also just dealt with a genuine case of someone farming <30sec wins against a fake account simply to collect all the titles. So this seems like a good moment to explain what we watch for, what we don't care about, and what happens when someone crosses the line.

Playing your mates is fine

Playing the same small group of people or even one other player over and over is completely normal. That is what a pod is and this is what TC is for. Plenty of you use TableCommander because your playgroup got scattered across the country (or the planet) and this is how you still get your Tuesday night game in.

What farming actually looks like

The case we just handled is a good example, and it looks nothing like the above. An account was created simply to farm wins. Over the next couple of sessions the pair "played" around 140 games. Almost all of them lasted under half a minute: start the game, concede, start the next one, concede. The new account never played anyone else, never won, and never logged in again. Meanwhile the other account picked up ten wins with each colour and each colour pair in turn, then moved to a different colour deck, and the site handed out every colour title we have, plus a spot at the top of the wins leaderboard. That is not a playgroup. That is one person printing wins, and it is the sort of thing our checks are built to catch.

What we monitor

Every finished game records who played, who won, how long it took and how the game ended, and we run automated checks over that data, creating positive and negative scoring. Two people mucking about starting and abandoning a game a few times is nothing. It is the combination and the volume that matters, and the checks are weighted so that a real playgroup with a real history does not trip them. Long games, varied opponents and time between sessions all count in your favour.

We are deliberately not publishing the exact numbers or scoring method. Anyone who wants to game the system does not need our help.

What happens when it trips

Nothing automatic happens to your account. The checks flag it for us and we look at the actual game history. If it is obviously legitimate, and it usually is, we move on and you will never know it happened. If it is clearly farming, we act. Depending on how blatant it is that means removing the farmed wins and any titles or badges that came from them, resetting stats, and for the worst cases banning the accounts involved.

If you think someone is cheating or win farming

Tell us, we do want to know. But please do it through the usual channels (Report on Players profile, or in-game feedback button) rather than in the middle of someone's game or in a public post naming them. Preferably not in General channels as that just makes the place look salty and unwelcoming, especially if it turns out you were wrong. We may also add a Discord bot command to report too, soon. Most of the reports we get turn out to be a couple of friends playing a lot, and nobody deserves to be called a cheat for that.

Finally

We would rather spend our time building things than policing them, and the vast majority of you make that easy. Thanks for being here. Keep playing!
