Cards on the Table #3

Round three. The biggest visual change since launch landed this past month, so this one comes with pictures.

The Numbers

Up another ~60% across the board, and tables created has nearly doubled again. Still mostly word of mouth, Google search/SEO and Discord. You keep bringing friends, and they keep sticking around. We love it!

A Whole New Look

The big one. We've rebuilt the entire site with a new visual language, gold corner-brackets, parchment headlines, sharp-cornered surface panels, and a single consistent vocabulary across every page. Home, decks, the deck builder, card pages, players, profiles, friends, leaderboard, the lot.

It's not just a paint job. The old interface was carrying a lot of legacy weight, and clearing it out made the whole site lighter and quicker.

The Table, Redesigned

And this week, the part everyone actually spends their time on caught up: the in-game playmat now matches the rest of the site.

While we were in there, a pile more board controls came along for the ride, so you can customise the battlefield as clean as you want it:

  • Background opacity — dial how much of your playmat shows through the board.
  • Zone labels — big, readable labels on the battlefield and zones, toggleable.
  • Compact hand — a tighter hand band when you want more board.
  • Day/Night and Monarch toggles — show or hide the indicators as you like.

Card Pages & Top Cards

Every card now has its own page with full oracle text, hero artwork, an alternate-art gallery, and a look at how it's used across TableCommander, with deck counts and top decks. There's also a Top Cards page ranking what's popular, sliced by format and card type, with filters for commanders, companions, partners, and equipment.

Both cards and decks picked up a Gallery view too, if you'd rather flick through big hero tiles than scan a grid.

The Lounge

There's now a global lounge — a pre-table chat with live presence, @mentions, replies, persistent history, and slash commands (/help, /me, /lfg, /tables, /whisper). Somewhere to hang about and round up a pod before anyone sits down, for all those users (4 out of 5) who do not use our Discord.

New Formats & Flair

  • Pendragon (Beta) — a new Commander-family format built around an Arthur & Excalibur pairing, with its own deck-builder slots, validation, and search filters. Import a deck and we'll promote Excalibur out of the mainboard for you.
  • Player titles — collectible, equippable titles that show on your profile, the players list, and your foil card.
  • Deck shape — a gradient bar on every deck showing its ramp / draw / removal / protection / wipe balance at a glance, plus a deck overview that reads out commander, colours, curve, win rate, and bracket.
  • Deck prices — a $ toggle on the deck view and decks list for per-card USD and running totals.

Discord Bot

The bot picked up some proper commands: /card to pull up any card, /randomcommander for inspiration, /topcommanders, /tables to see what's live, and /lfg to shout for a game with a format and player count.

Coming Up

  • Blind Commander: Random decks assigned to each player from a curated pool (or public deck pool), similar brackets or full random for some added chaos!

Thanks

Thanks for joining, playing and especially those supporting on Patreon.
